Horse Riding at Low Close

Horse riding is what we all have our horses for and we really don't know anywhere which offers better, more varied, or safer riding and off-road hacking than Low Close at Lowther.

From our gate you ride through Yanwath Wood straight into Lowther Park with its 3500 acres of spectacular landscape and wonderful wildlife, then decide which route you wish to take along private permitted tracks and paths.

You can choose from any of these wonderful rides and much more:

  • A quiet 1½ hour hack past the famous Lowther Castle, which is one of Cumbria's most magnificent historic treasures, and then along the River Lowther
  • An all-day ride through the park and onto the unspoilt Lakeland fells overlooking Ullswater and / or:
  • Ride on the High Street bridleway and along the route of the B.H.S. Ullswater Endurance Ride
  • Ride through Lowther Park for only 2 miles on private tracks to join the recently opened B.H.S. Eden Valley Loops.

Not only can you 'ride for miles' if you wish, but you can also ride for days from our door without visiting the same route! None of the rides recommended are to entail more than between 200 and 900 yards of public roads and these are quiet roads and lanes.
